The home page in autumn 2020, as we delivered it. Campaign material and the news column share the fold; the language switch sits above everything.

Task

In 2018 the UN office in Azerbaijan needed one public address for work spread across more than a dozen agencies, each with its own mandate, publications and events. A visitor arriving from a story about refugees, plant health or the Sustainable Development Goals had to see the whole picture.

What we did

  • Built the corporate site around what the office publishes.
  • Made agency programmes, the Sustainable Development Goals, news, an events calendar, galleries and a publications library separate managed sections.
  • Used the Goals as the site's organising frame, so a visitor sees which of the seventeen the country office works on.
  • Kept the photographs of each event under one address, with captions.
  • Gave the phone and tablet widths layouts of their own.
  • Delivered the site in Azerbaijani and English.

Result

The site was the office's public presence in Azerbaijan, with the SDG framing, the agency directory and the publication archive in one place.

Product Overview

Photo and video galleries, the publications library and the events calendar on the United Nations Azerbaijan site.
Galleries, a publications library and an events calendar — each a managed section the office updates itself.
The photo archive under Resources: a grid of captioned event photographs, with the breadcrumb above.
Every event keeps its photographs under one address, captioned, so the archive answers what the office did and when.
The home page at 458 pixels wide: one column, the menu behind a button, the lead story and the news below it.
At phone width the page has a layout of its own — one column and a menu button — not a shrunken desktop.
The home page at 984 pixels wide: the tablet layout, with the menu behind a button and the news under the lead story.
At tablet width the news column moves under the lead story instead of beside it.
