The SmartCard ordering page on the Bank Standard site, with the card tiers and the order button.
The card is ordered from this page: a short form, a scan of the ID, and a bank officer calls back with the decision. As delivered in 2015.

Task

In 2015 Bank Standard had no way for a customer to apply for its SmartCard credit card online. An application channel only pays off if somebody answers quickly, so every application had to reach someone who would see it.

What we did

  • Built a sales site around one task: ordering a SmartCard.
  • Placed the card terms beside the form, so an applicant does not leave the page to check them.
  • Split the order into four steps: the applicant, work and income, the card itself, and a confirmation of what arrives next.
  • Added an upload for a scan of the ID in the first step, so the bank has the document before it calls.
  • Fed every application into an administration panel with a built-in alert system, which counts requests by state: under review, approved, refused.

Result

Every application landed in a panel that notified staff of it.

Product Overview

Step 1 of the order form: name, ID number, date of birth, address, phones and e-mail, with a scan of the ID card uploaded. The values are placeholders.
Step 1 of 4 — who is applying. The scan of the ID is uploaded here, so the bank has the document before it calls.
Step 2 of the order form: whether the applicant is already a Bank Standard customer, workplace, position, length of service, monthly income and travel visas.
Step 2 of 4 — work and income, the questions a credit decision starts from.
Step 3 of the order form: card type, currency, credit amount, card term, issue fee and a secret word, each checked as it is filled in.
Step 3 of 4 — the card itself. Each field is checked as it is filled in, and the missing one is marked before the form can be sent.
Step 4 of the order form: a confirmation that thanks the applicant and says an activation e-mail has been sent.
Step 4 of 4 — the application is in, and the applicant is told what arrives next.
The SmartCard control panel, showing application statistics and the sections for handling incoming requests.
The panel behind the form. Applications are counted by state — under review, approved, refused — so a request cannot sit unseen in a mailbox.
